The Adventure Travel Show in Long Beach CA just wrapped up, and it was another very successful consumer travel show. This show is very well organized, and I was pleased to be a part of it. I spent my time with my friends in the Cook Islands booth, talking to interested travelers about a trip to visit Royale Takitumu and Palm Grove. The owner of Crusoe’s Retreat also visited for the show, and helped promote travel to Fiji. Samoa had a booth, and we were presenting some great packages to Coconuts Beach Club. Great show, and met some great friends!

Sometimes I need to pinch myself.  My business travels take me all over the world, but when I have the opportunity to visit the islands of the South Pacific, I’m reminded time and again that I am one lucky person. The view from my Air New Zealand flight, as the sun begins to rise over the island of Rarotonga – simply awe-inspiring! Rarotonga holds a very special place in my heart. Every time I return, I fall even more in love with this magical island, and am constantly reminded why I am so proud to represent properties in the Cook Islands. This visit was to attend the KOCI 2012 Cook Islands Marketing Forum. Several days of meetings and appointments with leading travel wholesale companies from around the world, and of course a little bit of fun. I stayed in a Honeymoon Beachfront Villa at Royale Takitumu.  There is no doubt that this is…

After a week in Auckland, it’s always nice to have a little down time in Fiji. Too bad all of my business trips can’t be like this. My first stop was Crusoe’s Retreat, where I had the opportunity to catch up with our wonderful resort managers, spend some time with our friendly local Fijian staff, and see all the amazing improvements happening at the resort. Crusoe’s looks great, and the many guests we had staying with us were having a blast! After a couple days at Crusoe’s, I hopped on a ferry at Port Denarau and visited the Mamanuca Islands.  After 25+ visits to Fiji, this was the first time I have ever taken a ferry in Fiji. It was great – very relaxing, and an opportunity to see some of these beautiful islands. I was attending a Fiji Matai Agent conference, where Fiji Specialist travel agents from North America and…

This is my 5th visit to Auckland, and it just keeps getting better. The city is stunning, with an amazing harbor, some great (and funky) neighborhoods, and incredibly nice people. Auckland is knows as the City of Sails, but it should also be known as the City of Coffee. It seems that absolutely every meeting I had was over coffee. So many coffee shops, so little time. It was great seeing some old (and new) friends and colleagues. While in Auckland, I met with wholesale and retail travel companies to discuss Crusoe’s Retreat in Fiji. Wholesale travel companies in Auckland are wonderful to work with, and it’s always a great reminder to me that the markets of New Zealand, Australia, North America, and UK/Europe are so very different from each other. While in Auckland, I was able to catch up with some friends, who so very generously took me on an adventure…

It’s always wonderful visiting Canada, and this past week was certainly not a disappointment. I just finished up a week of traveling with many island friends, on the Sunsational South Pacific Roadshow. We visited five Canadian cities, and spoke with hundreds of travel agents. I was lucky enough to do presentations for Royale Takitumu, Palm Grove, and Crusoe’s Retreat. The reception we received from these great agents was warm and welcoming. While the weather was chilly in both Edmonton and Calgary, my South Pacific friends and I were able to share a little warmth by showing off our great photos and presentations of the islands.  Kelowna, Vancouver and Langley had slightly warmer weather, but all of my island friends bragged about the warm, tropical weather they enjoy every day.  A big thanks to all of our Canadian visitors, and we look forward to seeing you on our next visit to your beautiful cities.

Bula Fiji – it’s always great to see you! I attended another very successful Bula Fiji Tourism Exchange conference in Fiji this past week. This was a fantastic opportunity to catch up with some old friends, meet new friends and colleagues, and show off some of the amazing highlights of Crusoe’s Retreat to the travel industry. While the conference took place on Denarau Island in Nadi, I was very lucky to have a couple days to sneak down to Crusoe’s Retreat to check on the resort. It was great seeing the property, our amazing staff, and spending some time with very happy guests.  The conference went very well, and it was an amazing week in Fiji. After the conference, I was so very fortunate to be able to spend a couple of days on one of my favorite Fiji islands – Taveuni. There is good reason why it is known as Fiji’s…

For years, I have heard from friends and colleagues that the ITB show in Berlin was the largest travel show in the world, and that it truly was a site to behold. It’s easy to listen and shrug off what you think is hyperbole. However, once seen, I quickly realized that my friends were not exaggerating at all – this show is truly epic. This was my first visit to Berlin. While never very high on my priority list of European cities to visit, I was completely taken in by the charm of this amazing city, which made me question my priority list for all future visits! The historical sights, fun neighborhoods, great public transportation, very friendly people, and great restaurants all combine to make this a world class city. Every free moment that I had was spent walking and exploring. Normally, business trips, particularly conferences, are very long days…
