Now I get it.
Spending a couple days in Queenstown, I quickly saw why this is such a popular destination. Tons of activities, lots of adventure, a vibrant town, dramatic mountains and lake views. This place is well-deserved of all it’s praise.
But Wanaka. Wow. Wanaka is a gem. Located approximately an hour’s drive from downtown Queenstown, Wanaka is what Queenstown was probably 25 years ago. A small community of incredibly friendly people who have chosen this natural playground as their paradise. Wanaka advertises itself as a Lifestyle Preserve, and they are exactly right.
Among the amazing things I did this week include:
– Jet Boat ride
– Wine Tour
– Extreme 4WD tour with Oxbow
– Boat trip and hike up Mou Wahu Island
– 4WD tour of a nearby sheep/deer farm
– Mountain biking along Lake Wanaka
– Sunrise hike up Mount Iron
– A fun and educational visit to Puzzle World
While it seems that I did a lot, I didn’t even scratch the surface of what you can do in Wanaka. I so want to return to do some skiing at Cardrona and Treble Cone; more extreme and adventurous hiking and mountain biking; golf at the Wanaka golf club; visit more of the region’s fantastic vineyards; and so much more.
Edgewater Resort is the PERFECT place for a true Wanaka visit. The location directly on Lake Wanaka, with shocking views of the mountains, and a short walk into town, make Edgewater the ideal spot for an amazing experience. The staff was so friendly and so helpful. Mike and his team at Edgewater should be very proud of what they do – keep up the great work!
Hope to see you again . . . very soon!
